Moti Levi Interview

Nelly Mance (boardforce.net): Israeli nationals are probably last European nationals in this season. While some of us were snowboarding on the mountains you still had +34 degrees over there... How was the day?
Moti Levi: That's sick ! Actually it's not really 34+ but it around 25 degrees, with blue sky and cold beer - perfection (-: The Israeli weather is a great advantage for wakeboarding - while jumping on the water in Europe around December you can case heart attack - here it's just cold enough to wake you up from the hangover cuz of last night party... What can I say not every day I have the opportunity to report in Boardforce that why - the day is happy la la la la.... .

NM: You won first place, behind Lior on the 2nd, Idan on the 3rd and Efi on the 4th place. Was it hard? Which tricks were in the game, can you picture us all the runs?
Moti: Well.. I'm still shock that I did it... The true is that the night before I went 2 partyyyy like a true wakeboarder... and I just came in the morning with "all or nothing" manner... I open my run with toe 9 from the kicker - which I have never done before. Today this trick become like a 180 of the flat for pro riders around the world, but for me it was the trick that gave me the motivation for the rest of the run! So right after I land it I just did few more water tricks - whirlybird, mobe, and Volcan (ha ha I didn't know what to do so there was just one option - improvise! ). Lior sofer crash in switch mobe 5 in the 1st run, but in the 2nd one he showed us his sick riding with raley 5, crow mobe 5 of the kicker - as I call him - Sofffffer man !!! What can I say, I was kind of a free style rider in my runs - I guess cuz of this way doing my comp - "the best trick or nothing" + a bit of luck = 1st place.. that's a cool formula !

NM: You didn't compete in this season international, with such high level of riding you should join the other Israelis who were with us this year?
Moti: Yeah I know... Actually I really took a gear down from the competition scene for a while, but for me it's part of the life - studies, work, family, friends, new hobbies.. I don't want to concede about those stuff. Sometimes as a pro riders you need to take a rest from wakeboarding, then when you are back - you feel like a sick 16 years old rider again !

NM: But instead of competitions you did lots of freeride all around the world how was it?
Moti: That the thing that attracts me now! I just love free ride!!! I'm sure many riders will agree - it just so simple and shows your real style and tricks! While you compete a lot of pressure sometimes can damage your love for this sport... I really made this year as a free ride year for me - without any thinking about competitions, just woke up in the morning for 3 months and rode !!! I rode in Australia - at BLI BLI cable park and Logan cable park, right after that I traveled to the cheapest cable in the world - Aum Thai Park ! Those three months were amazing - without sponsors , without pressure to ride for promotion or for any other goal... just free ride and beers full power! That's what wakeboarding means for me!!!

NM: Do you think it affected to your style? With whom you were riding the most?
Moti: Of course it affected on my style! The best way to learn stylish movement is to travel all around and just watch different riders with different styles. In my case I rode with Australian riders for 3 weeks, and at Aum Thai park... The most I liked Aum's style who is owner of Aum Thai park. This guy I called "sababa" - it's mean cool in Hebrew. I learned about his style from a different directions - his life style. He just made the dream of sick riders - he opened a successful cable, and he just spend the most of his time to mange the cable, ride, chill out, friends and more... I liked his life style and also his style on the water - just rode a pure free ride in his own cable... I guess it affected about my ride too after I met him. Just ride coooool and easy man... ha ha Aum is true "sababa" guy!!!
Efi Levi: "that's my brother!"

NM: What is the plan for the next year, more comps?
Moti: mmmm... I don't know - maybe the main comps - European championships and staff like that... I'm looking for movies to take a part, and winch events and staff like that, it feels more free ride for me. But I will mostly look for the stylish and cool guys to ride with them - just hang out and ride - that's mean wakeboarding ! My studies break are 3 months between July-October 2011 so the main goal is to travel again with my board and bindings, all I need is good people to ride with them and it's enough(-:

NM: But this season, you are still having some plans with riding, 5 Israelis will join in one wake project, can you tell us more about this?
Moti: Yes! We plan to produce a new wakeboard movie of the Israeli Riders - with our top Riders: Efi Levi, Lior Sofer , Idan Mizrahi, Omri Ben Natan, Alon Ferber, and me... At the moment we are raising money for it, but we believe in this movie! It will be made mostly to show our f*cked up style on the water! We plan to start shooting soon, and all we think about how to make this movie more and more stylish and crazy! I promise some good A stuff... !

NM: Who is supporting you at the moment? At the moment you are searching some new sponsors?
Moti: At the moment I support by my self, I hope to get deal with J-star soon - I know them as a company which supports riders as well. I really plan to make something with my free ride this year - looking for any media promotion - especially videos because I think that's the place which shows your real style and tricks on the water. And I hope to find the right company that will support my free ride, and will help me to produce myself trough free style, video and etc.

NM: In other time, while you are not wakeboarding what you do? Studies, other sport? Tell us more about you?
Moti:I'm studding in Jerusalem Engineering Collage. 1st year of engineering management industry. It sound like one big trouble, ha ha... The rest of the time, I just want what every wakeboarder use to do - drink, party, girls, and my new hobby - guitar.

NM: With you and Efi together, how to recognize you? Please do a bit different hair style haha..
Moti: It's simple - I look much better than him.

NM: But you are not only twins in Israel who are wakeboarding, other couple is in the game, isn't it?
Moti: Yes it is! Omri and Roy Ben Natan are the second twined couple in the team. These combinations of 4 couple help us as well with the ladies, that is the best advantage I can find ...

NM: Did you ever cheat on the water, that one goes instead of other? Or maybe in private life hehe? How was it?
Moti: I thought about break Lior Sofer's legs before the competition, because I knew I'll have a better chance to win but I didn't do it because I have would have too many troubles with the police. (yeah yeah sure...)

NM: Favorite trick? Write a trick tip for it... Moti: Stylish 911 to Revert - Just try to kick your legs as hard as you can when you switch to revert, and do it the last moment when you are landing.

NM:: On which one you are working at the moment? Moti: Pamela Anderson

NM: Where we can see you riding? Moti:At the only cable we have in Tel Aviv, or in bar.

Nelly Mance: Rail, water or kicker? Moti: Kicker !

NM: Boat, cable or winch? Moti: Cable !

NM: Beer or booze? Moti: I'm too lazy to check in the dictionary what booze means so I'll choose a beer..

NM: Water or juice? Moti: Water

NM: Tea or coffe? Moti: Coffee, in the Amsterdam Coffe shop

NM: Blond or brunette? Moti: Both, and all the others can join too.

NM:: Advice for newcomers, how to keep out of injuries?
Moti: Think about that you can be injured before you going down for a wakeboard sesh, It will help you to ride safe - but don't think about it obsessively...

NM: For the end? Moti: LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LA LAL

NM: BoardForce.net tell us about it, what do you think?
Moti: I think Boardforce.net is a website that made from riders to riders - just like Jet Pilot motto.

And I think the woman behind Boardforce is a legend like Bob Marley.
